Blue mermaid on porcelain, piece to hang, Paris 2023.
This body of work is a tribute to one of the first subject in occidental tattooing: the mermaid figure. Making echo to the Mediterranean culture by the blue underglaze on the white porcelain; modernizing the hanged/hand painted grandma’ plate and paying tribute to the miniature portraits of the 16th and 17th century.
I than decided to develop the concept with some of my flash tattoo designs, like the vampire figure.
“In the 16th and 17th centuries portrait miniatures primarily served as diplomatic gifts; tokens of love, which were sometimes exchanged during marriage negotiations; or mementoes to commemorate births or deaths. Miniatures dating to this period often bear emblems and impresa (heraldic devices), symbolizing courtly love, melancholy or pageantry.” Christies.com
